On 22-23 June 2006, the CoML Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) met at the University of Iceland in Reykjavik. As the CoML SSC member, Prof. Sun Song from the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences attended the meeting. Progress of the 16 ongoing field projects and the database project, and the research emphasis in the future five years were discussed on the meeting. The SSC was also thinking more about societal benefits and the legacies of the program after 2010. Prof. Sun introduced the progress of CoML-China and CMarZ, and high comments were given by the SSC for the development of Chinese OBIS and the progress of field investigation of zooplankton in China. Education and outreach of CoML in China were also introduced to the SSC, especially the foraminifera products developed by the Academician Zheng Shouyi from IOCAS. Shirts with patterns of foraminifera were given as presents to the SSC by the Chinese National Committee, which was welcomed by the SSC members.
